Saugerties held the first annual SAUGERTIES EARTH DAY WEEK to engage the community in discussion of the earth’s systems and the science around climate warming.
There were over 20 speakers and performers, 12 venues, and 34 events from April 22nd thru April 27th.
The support from 10 fellow organizations and 30 businesses assured its success.
Projects that will benefit the earth has emerged from the week's events, and you can get involved in them by emailing SaugertiesEarthWeek@gmail.com.

Just recently reported by Town of Hunter Supervisor Highway Superintendent Bob Blain - the tentative reopening date/time for Platte Clove Road is May 8th by 4:30 p.m.
The Town of Hunter highway crew is wrapping up the scheduled road work, and Greene County still needs to complete some bridge repairs at the top of the road before it can officially open.

For the 63rd consecutive summer, the Saugerties Summer Youth Recreation Program will take place. Once again, both half-day and full day programs are being offered. The Program runs from Monday, July 7th through Friday, August 15th.
Preregistration is now happening for this summer season.
Take advantage of the lower pre-registration prices now, because come July, on-site registration prices are higher.

The yearly Village Spring cleanup for leaves, brush and sticks (nothing over 6 inches in diameter or 6 feet in length) is underway.
The cleanup began Monday, April 14th and will NOW end on Friday, May 2nd.
Please separate leaves from brush and sticks, so that the cleanup can proceed efficiently.
Pickup will be made one time only, on each street.

Our First Responder community in Ulster County and surrounding areas have dealt with many unforeseen tragic events in one form or another. Sheriff Juan Figueroa has helped the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office create a Wellness Program, which consists of a Resiliency Officer Program and Critical Incident Stress Management Team (CISM).
The goal of the Wellness Program is to help support our community of First Responders to become resilient and help them going forward by offering them much needed support. We need to take better care of our first responders.
On upcoming step is a Wellness Fundraiser being held at Kingston Lane Bowling Alley on Sunday, June 1st from 9:00 a.m. until Noon.
All the proceeds raised from this event will directly support Ulster County First Responders, Police, Fire, EMS, and Dispatchers throughout the year. Mr. Charles Schaller was the Ulster County Traffic Safety Coordinator for approximately 10 years and had a long-term interest in traffic safety and keeping the roadways safe for Ulster County, New York residents.

Announcing a Saugerties Seniors day trip to the Hunterdon Hills Playhouse, to see the musical "SWING", celebrating the music and dance of the swing era of jazz.
It's happening Thursday, May 8, 2025. The bus leaves the Greco Senior Center, 207 Market St, at 8:30 a.m. and returns approximately 6:30 p.m.
The Tour includes transportation, driver gratuity, luncheon, the show and a wonderful dessert buffet.
The price is $94.00 for members. There is an additional fee of $15.00 for non-members.

The Friends of the Saugerties Public Library have announced that they are offering two $1,000 scholarships. Applications are available in the Saugerties High School counselors' office. They are also planned to be available online, on the Saugerties Public Library website. (We'll update this page with a link, when that happens.)
The deadline for submitting an application is Wednesday, April 30th.
This scholarship will be awarded to graduating seniors, from the Town or Village of Saugerties, who are eligible to attend a college or university in pursuit of higher education. The scholarship recipient will be selected on the basis of these factors: a written essay and volunteer service to the school, to the Saugerties Public Library and/or to the community in general.

The Ulster County Transportation Council’s (UCTC's) Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) looks ahead twenty-five years to establish a framework for the safe and efficient development, management, and operation of surface transportation systems. Updated at least every 5 years, the plan covers the UCTC’s Metropolitan Planning Area, which is all of Ulster County. This long-term perspective is especially valuable, as transportation projects often require significant time to progress from concept to planning, design, and ultimately, construction. The Plan plays a key role in guiding priorities and decision-making for the region's transportation system.

Ulster County Soil & Water Conservation District are helping to spread the word about the DEC’s Hudson Estuary Trees for Tribs program, which provides free native trees and shrubs to landowners to help restore stream buffers.
Who can apply for these free trees? Landowners, property managers (in partnership with the landowner(s), municipalities, community groups, and non-profit organizations (with permission from the landowner), when the trees will be used on property along streams and waterways within the Hudson River Estuary Grant Program boundary (Saugerties is entirely within the boundary).

The Saugerties Chamber of Commerce is please to announce that the application for the 2025 Mery Rosado Memorial Scholarship is now available in the High School Guidance Office.
This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating Saugerties High School senior planning to enter at two- or four-year higher education program.
The funding for this scholarship was established from a portion of the proceeds from the 2024 Chamber Street Art auction.

The Town of Saugerties was recently awarded $100,000 by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to purchase two, battery electric light-duty trucks to replace aging gas-powered vehicles.
The all-electric trucks help reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, are more efficient and cost less to operate. The new trucks are for use primarily on public roads and highways by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Buildings, and the Waste Water Treatment Department.
Town Supervisor Fred Costello, Jr. stated his gratitude to NYSERDA for providing the funding, and to the town’s Conservation Advisory Commission Climate Smart Task Force for its work in documenting the town’s Clean Energy Communities (CEC) high-impact actions that qualified the town for the grant.

The first gathering of "Saugerties Sings", a newly formed (and still forming), fun, community-wide chorus took place on Wednesday, November 1st, 2023. By all accounts, it was a big success, with 23 people in attendance.
Gerri Ryan, the founding member of the chorus, recently announced that the schedule for practices for 2025 will be Tuesdays. Members should plan to arrive at 6:30 p.m. and the practices begin at 7:00 p.m.
The location of practice sessions at the United Methodist Church at 67 Washington Avenue. There should be ample street parking and the entry to the church is through the side door.
The group remains very much open to new voices joining in. The chorus is non-denominational, all levels of singing experience are welcomed and assistance will be available in learning the music.

Ulster County announced today that applications for our 2025 Climate Corps Summer Internship Program are now available.
They encourage you to apply or share these openings with anyone you know might be interested.
This is a paid, project-based ten-week summer internship program. Participants will be assigned to County departments to help implement the County’s climate and sustainability initiatives that work to meet the goals of the New York State Climate Act.
Interviews begin after March 1, 2025.

Program End Date: August 15, 2025 (flexible)
Rate: $18/hr

Qualified customers can apply for Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) grants. This federally funded program provides essential support to help pay heating and utility bills, offering both regular and emergency assistance.
Applications must be submitted annually, as income guidelines may change each season. HEAP applications are available through local Department of Social Services (DSS) offices, Offices for the Aging, and online at mybenefits.ny.gov.
Customers using non-utility heating fuels (oil, propane, wood, etc.) should email their current HEAP Notice of Decision letter to Central Hudson at careunit@cenhud.com to receive the bill credit.

The Small Business Administration announced on May 29, 2024 the opening of a Disaster Loan Outreach Center at the Village of Highland Falls Senior Center at 15 Drew Avenue to assist New Yorkers with recovery from the severe storms and flash flooding that occurred July 9-10, 2023. The disaster declaration covers Ontario and Orange counties, and the adjacent counties of Dutchess, Livingston, Monroe, Putnam, Rockland, Seneca, Steuben, Sullivan, Ulster, Wayne, Westchester, and Yates in New York; Passaic and Sussex in New Jersey; and Pike in Pennsylvania.

Upon exiting, any trash and/or other items that you may have brought in, please take with you. Please do not leave anything at the Dog Park and kindly make sure dog waste is placed in your carry-in bag and placed in the dog waste receptacle.
Unfortunately, in the recent past, there has been neglect on the part of an individual or individuals.
The Dog Park was completely cleaned up, along with all items being removed.
For the enjoyment of all, please be respectful of our facility, along with the many users of the facility.
