ANIMAL SHELTER

A shelter for dogs and cats is located at the Transfer Station on Route 212 in Saugerties.  All dogs redeemed or adopted from the shelter must be vaccinated for rabies and licensed.  All dogs and cats adopted from Town facilities must be spayed or neutered as required by N.Y. State Dept. of Agriculture and Markets.

ANIMAL SHELTER JOB OPENING

Saugerties Animal Shelter is seeking a Part-Time Kennel Assistant.  $15.50/hour with 15 to 20 hours per week.

Responsibilities include cleaning, feeding, medicating and exercising animals.

Applicants must be 18 years or older and must have their own, reliable transportation along with a clean Drivers License.  Applicants:

  • Should be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Should have a flexible schedule, as early mornings, weekends and some holidays are required
  • Must be able to handle dogs of all sizes and fractious cats
  • Should be a team player
  • Should have good communication skills. 
Candidates should also be comfortable answering phones and working with people.

Experience working in a similar environment is preferred.

A self-proclaimed cat lady and lover of all animals, she specializes in neonatal kittens, seniors and special needs cat care.

ANIMAL CONTROL

Animal Control Person/Contact: Adam Saunders is the Animal Control person and his number is 518-291-3335.

adam portrait.jpgAdam Saunders - Dog Control Officer Adam Saunders has been with the Town of Saugerties Animal Shelter since February 2022. With many years of animal handling experience, he makes an excellent addition to the team. He is a co-founder of Ulster County Canines in Saugerties.



 

Licensing for Dogs: Unspayed or Unneutered Dogs are $15.00 ... $3.00 of which will be sent to the NY State Department of Agriculture and Markets toward the spay/neuter program.  Spayed or Neutered Dogs are $6.00.

Proof that rabies vaccinations are up-to-date is necessary to procure a license. A dog of 4 months age or older must be licensed.  For more information on licensing, please contact the Saugerties Town Clerk.
